yes. comedians lose big time money. one comedian, one mic. doesn't matter. you pay for your venue. a rather large fee. than you pay for a publicist because you need one. then you pay for an ad because if you don't have one, no one will come. than you pay for flyers. than you pay for someone to flyer for you if you can't all the time. then you pay for a flat for a month. then you pay for airfare. then you pay for food and drink. and believe me, i'm probably missing a cost or two. so, comedians ALWAYS lose money doing the fringe. believe it. because it's true.

Do comedians actually lose money when taking a show to the Edinburgh Comedy Festival? For all Doug Stanhope's musings about the fringe costing each comedian £7,349, I'm not sure I believe him.

I can understand how a smaller play, with 10 actors to put up in peak season might lose money, but a comedian just has themselves plus a mike. Where's the cost?

I hear tell of unknown comedians (not you) paying tons of money just to be there and I don't get it. And I don't understand the what is fringe/what isn't fringe -- ok, I think I mentioned -- I don't get it!

I've got only one good friend going to festival this year. Will find out what's up with him and maybe you two can raise a glass?
